Great Britain has kicked off its campaign at the Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai with a double gold medal haul on the second day. This strong performance comes despite a disrupted build-up to the annual event.
Matt Bostock secured his first world title with a dominant ride in the men's scratch race. He broke away from the field and held off challengers, with New Zealand's Tom Sexton taking silver and Belgium's Lindsay de Vylder earning bronze. This was Bostock's second medal of the day, having also ridden in the earlier rounds for the bronze medal-winning men's pursuit team.
The women's team pursuit squad, comprising Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Millie Couzens, and Josie Knight, along with reserve rider Meg Barker, reclaimed their rainbow jersey. They delivered a commanding victory over Italy, winning by more than five seconds after overcoming an initial deficit.
In other events, Sophie Capewell and Emma Finucane both advanced to the semi-finals of the women's sprint, guaranteeing Britain another medal as they will face each other for a place in the gold medal final.
