Greek police are attempting to determine if foul play was involved in the death of Elisabeth-Jane Ross, a 38-year-old Scottish woman whose body was discovered in a suitcase. Ms Ross was found in an abandoned building in the Kypseli district of Athens on 18 July, reportedly by a homeless man.
Police in Greece are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to establish the cause of death. A spokesperson stated that the initial examination of the body did not clarify whether foul play was involved.
Ms Ross is believed to have died between five and seven days before her discovery and is thought to have travelled to Greece from Cyprus two weeks prior to her death. First Minister John Swinney expressed deep concern and confirmed that Ms Ross's family would receive support from the Scottish government and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) confirmed on Wednesday that they are providing consular support and are in contact with Greek authorities. Police Scotland also confirmed they are aware of the death and are liaising with authorities in Greece, providing support to her family in Scotland.
