Half of President Donald Trump's eight female cabinet officials have either resigned or been fired during his second term, with all of them being replaced by men. Several other women in his administration have also departed.
The latest departure was White House press secretary Katie Zacharia, who was fired on Friday, just five days into her role. Her tenure began with a widely criticised press briefing and questions regarding her legal credentials.
Former homeland security secretary Kristi Noem was sacked on March 5, and former attorney general Pam Bondi was pushed out in April. Other departures include former labor secretary Lori Chavez-DeRemer, who stepped down in April following misconduct allegations, and national intelligence director Tulsi Gabbard, who resigned in May. Earlier this week, US ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle was asked to step down.
President Trump denied reports on Friday that he was considering replacing Susie Wiles, his White House chief of staff, stating, “She’s gonna be here for a long time.”
