Harmanpreet Kaur has announced her resignation as captain of the India women's cricket team across all formats. The 37-year-old, who first became permanent captain in 2016, led India to significant victories, including the ODI World Cup and a gold medal at the Asian Games.
Kaur shared her decision in a social media post, stating it was not an easy choice but that she leaves the team "in a good place." She added, "I feel I have done my duty. I gave this team everything I had."
Her resignation follows a meeting chaired by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia to review team performances and future plans, which Kaur attended alongside vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and head coach Amol Muzumdar. While there is no confirmation she was asked to step down, Mandhana is expected to take over the captaincy across all formats.
Kaur also expressed her intention to continue playing for India, stating she is "ready to play for the love of the game again."
