During his ongoing 30-night residency in New York, Harry Styles has addressed the recent shooting of Oscar Belgal by an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent. The incident, which occurred earlier this month on October 8, saw the 28-year-old man shot in his car, with his five-year-old son present in the back seat. Belgal survived the shooting and is now being held at a detention facility.
While on stage at Madison Square Garden, Styles called for people to make a greater effort to "look after each other." He stated, "I just want us to take a moment to think about Oscar Belgal tonight, and I want us to think and remember to just look after each other." He added that it is up to individuals to create the world they wish to see and give to their children, emphasising respect, love, dignity, and justice for all.
The Department of Homeland Security has defended the ICE agents' actions, citing an alleged criminal history for Belgal and confirming awareness that his son was in the car at the time of the incident.
