Amber and yellow heat health alerts have come into effect across much of England today, Monday 3 August 2026, with temperatures anticipated to reach 34C in some areas. The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued the alerts, which replace warnings from last week's heatwave.
Amber alerts cover London, the South East, the East of England, and the East Midlands, running from 09:00 BST today until 09:00 BST on Wednesday 5 August. These alerts indicate that significant impacts are likely on health and social care services, including a potential rise in deaths, particularly among vulnerable individuals.
Less severe yellow heat health alerts are also in place for the same period in the North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, West Midlands, and the South West. The North East is currently the only English region without a heat health alert.
Today is expected to be the hottest day of the week, with a surge of hot air moving north from France. Southern and eastern parts of England are widely forecast to see temperatures in the low to mid-30sC, with a few locations in London and the Home Counties potentially reaching 34C. Cooler Atlantic air is expected from midweek, bringing an end to this brief period of high temperatures.
