Heavy rain will batter much of the UK on Monday as the Met Office issued weather warnings across England, Wales and Scotland, threatening localised flooding and significant travel disruption.
The North West, Yorkshire and the Humber, and the Midlands face the heaviest downpours in England, whilst parts of the South West and South East will also see substantial showers. A broad band of rain will sweep across Wales, with Scotland's western and central regions bearing the brunt of the wet weather. Northern Ireland should escape the worst conditions, though scattered showers remain possible.
Surface water flooding poses the greatest risk, particularly in urban areas and on already saturated ground. Commuters face longer journey times and hazardous road conditions with reduced visibility, whilst rising river levels threaten at-risk communities.
Despite the persistent rain, temperatures will remain mild between 10°C and 15°C. Moderate winds of 10-20 mph will accompany the downpours, with stronger gusts hitting exposed coastal areas and making conditions feel particularly grim.
Residents should clear gutters and drains, avoid walking or driving through floodwater, and allow extra time for journeys. The Environment Agency urges those in flood-prone areas to monitor local alerts, whilst the Met Office recommends checking official channels for real-time updates throughout Monday.
