A horse rescued from the side of a road in Bradford was discovered to have two 'teeth' growing in one of its ears. The Welsh pony, named King, was found tethered and abandoned by a field worker from the World Horse Welfare charity.
King was taken to Penny Farm Rescue and Rehoming Centre near Blackpool, where the rare condition, medically known as a dentigerous cyst, was identified. Centre manager Adam Cummins stated that investigating a lump near the ear's base revealed it was not an abscess but a developmental defect, with King's case being particularly unusual due to having two 'ear teeth'.
Kai Cahun from Oakhill Vets said that a diplomat surgeon worked for several hours to remove the two almost normal-sized teeth that had grown inside King's skull. The charity stated that if left untreated, such cysts can cause lifelong pain and complications. Following surgery, the three-year-old animal is now being put up for re-homing as the original owner did not come forward.
