UKHospitality, the representative body for the UK's hospitality, tourism, and night-time economy sectors, has led the charge in developing an updated guest safety protocol. This comprehensive framework outlines clear guidelines on crucial areas such as room access procedures, safeguarding guest privacy, and defining staff responsibilities. The aim is to minimise opportunities for perpetrators within and outside venues, creating a safer environment for guests and employees.
The new plans also place a strong emphasis on additional vulnerability training and enhanced safety protocols for frontline staff. This training aims to equip teams with the necessary skills to identify potential risks and respond effectively. Businesses will receive support from third-sector organisations, including Rape Crisis and the Suzy Lamplugh Trust, to help them recognise and report instances of abuse.
Ministers at the roundtable meeting expressed their strong backing for the industry's proactive efforts. Minister Natalie Fleet highlighted the government's ambition to halve violence against women and girls within a decade, stressing that this goal requires cross-government and industry-wide collaboration. Kate Nicholls, Chair of UKHospitality, reiterated the sector's priority on guest safety and emphasised the importance of ongoing dialogue with the Government.
