At a time when many people feel overwhelmed, overstretched and over-reliant on screens, it's unsurprising that the wellness industry is booming. However, for those who cannot afford or prefer not to visit a spa, there may be an alternative waiting at home: hot baths.
Research from the University of Oregon suggests that bathing in hot water can have numerous health benefits, including lowering blood pressure and boosting the immune system. This is backed up by other studies which suggest that a bath's benefits could be comparable to aerobic exercise and may even reduce blood sugar levels.
A trial at Manchester Metropolitan University is currently exploring whether immersion in hot water can relieve symptoms of peripheral artery disease (PAD), a common circulatory disease that affects arteries in the lower legs. The study has already shown promising results, with participants experiencing improved blood circulation and reduced pain.
