Matthew Hudson-Smith, aged 31, secured his fifth European 400m gold medal, crossing the finish line in 44.17 seconds. This achievement makes him the most decorated British man in the history of the competition, with a total of eight European medals.

Hudson-Smith expressed the significance of the win, stating, "Words can’t describe how much that meant to me." He added, "No-one was going to beat me on this track, this is my home."

Following Hudson-Smith's triumph, 22-year-old Emily Newnham earned a silver medal in the women's 400m hurdles. She clocked a lifetime best of 53.33 seconds, finishing behind Slovakian Emma Zapletalova.

Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith have both advanced to the 200m final in Birmingham, with British champion Success Eduan also progressing as a fastest loser.
