  • The opening match of the Solheim Cup will see Europe's Charley Hull and Lottie Woad take on America's Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz.

Europe's Charley Hull and Lottie Woad are set to face the formidable American pairing of Nelly Korda and Allisen Corpuz in Friday's opening match of the Solheim Cup in the Netherlands. The English duo, ranked seventh and eighth respectively, will be up against a pair who have a perfect 4-0 record in foursomes matches across the last two editions of the competition.

This includes a victory over Hull and Esther Henseleit in the first match of the 2024 edition. Play is scheduled to begin at Bernardus Golf at 06:40 BST with four foursomes (alternate shot) matches.

Other pairings for Europe include Denmark's Nanna Koerstz Madsen and France's Celine Boutier against Alison Lee and Lauren Coughlin. Germany's Henseleit and Ireland's Leona Maguire will play Andrea Lee and debutant Lindy Duncan, while Swedish duo Maja Stark and Linn Grant will face Rose Zhang and Jennifer Kupcho.

The United States has historically dominated the opening foursomes, securing a 4-0 win in 2023 and a 3-1 advantage in 2024. Europe aims to regain the trophy after a 15½-12½ loss in Virginia two years ago in women's golf's biggest team competition.

Why this matters: The Solheim Cup is the biggest team competition in women's golf, with Europe looking to regain the trophy after their 2024 loss.
