Amy Hunt celebrated her British 4x100m relay team as "superwomen" after they successfully defended their European title in Birmingham. The victory keeps Hunt on track for a potential historic quadruple of gold medals at the championships.
Dina Asher-Smith, who was part of the winning quartet alongside Hunt, Success Eduan, and Imani-Lara Lansiquot, now holds 10 European Athletics Championships medals. This achievement places her joint-top of the all-time medal table with Polish sprinter Irena Szewinska, though Asher-Smith has two more golds with seven in total.
The British team finished the race in 42.05 seconds, ahead of Switzerland (43.12s) and Poland (43.15s). The men's 4x100m relay team, comprising Jeremiah Azu, Louie Hinchliffe, Zharnel Hughes, and Romell Glave, also secured gold, beating Germany and Belgium with a time of 38.45s.
Hunt, who had already achieved a European sprint double earlier in the week, expressed her happiness for the relay triumph. Asher-Smith noted that becoming the outright top medal-winner in the 92-year history of the European Championships was an aim for her this season.
