Hurricane Simon, a Category 3 storm, is bringing "extraordinary rainfall" to Mexico's Pacific coast today, 12 October 2026. Conagua, Mexico's national weather service, has warned of rainfall exceeding 250mm in Jalisco.

Coastal areas are expected to experience winds with gusts up to 220km/h and waves up to nine metres high. Locals in Jalisco, Colima, Nayarit, Sinaloa, and Michoacan are advised to remain attentive due to potential landslides and increased river levels in low-lying areas.

The UK's Foreign Office (FCDO) previously warned that Hurricane Simon could result in "life-threatening" flooding and landslides, very high winds, and "dangerous" ocean conditions. Travellers are advised to monitor local and international weather updates and follow advice from local authorities and tour operators.

Puerto Vallarta airport suspended flight arrivals from 5pm Saturday until 8am on Monday, following recommendations from authorities. However, as of Monday morning, no major flight disruption has occurred at Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta.

What this means for you: If you are travelling to Mexico's Pacific coast, monitor local and international weather updates and follow advice from local authorities and your tour operator. Flights could be affected, and ports have been closed.
