A recent test of 13 ice cream machines during the year's hottest days found the Caso Design compressor IceCreamer to be the top performer. The original Ninja Creami was also noted as an easy-to-use, freeze-first option.
The testing process involved making batches of vanilla ice cream and lemon sorbet, along with a standard recipe of double cream, sugar, and milk, in each machine. Batches were tasted for flavour and consistency, then stored in a freezer for several days to assess their durability.
Challenges encountered during the testing included accidentally making butter twice due to prolonged churning, and a strong smell of milk permeating the house. Some of the best models also required significant counter space, though compact versions like the Nutribullet Chill and Cuisinart Solo Scoops were identified.
