Iga Swiatek clinched the Canadian Open title on Thursday night, defeating Elena Rybakina in two sets. This victory marks her first title in 11 months and her first alongside new coach Francisco Roig.
Following her win, Swiatek expressed anger, attributing it to critical voices from viewers and media in Poland. She stated, "Sometimes we need to fight things that we shouldn’t."
Swiatek also discussed the intense public scrutiny she faces, particularly during the past two years on tour. She noted that unfair judgment is not exclusive to Poland, mentioning Great Britain and other countries across different sports.
Despite the demands of the sport, Swiatek travelled to Cincinnati by midday on Friday to address the media before her title defence in Ohio.
