IKEA has launched a new second-hand marketplace in the UK, allowing IKEA Family members to sell pre-owned IKEA furniture and homewares directly to other customers. The marketplace is designed to simplify the listing process, with IKEA providing information such as recommended pricing, product photographs, and assembly instructions for eligible items.
The marketplace is for genuine IKEA products, excluding categories like appliances, mattresses, and food, and products must be safe and usable. Sellers can set their own price, with a maximum listing price of £1,995, and buyers pay through the marketplace.
This new platform operates alongside IKEA's existing Buyback & Resell scheme, where IKEA assesses eligible used furniture and provides a refund card. While the Buyback scheme offers IKEA credit, the new marketplace allows sellers to receive direct payment from other customers.
Separately, Argos is developing an online marketplace for selected third-party sellers to offer products, which is not a second-hand platform for ordinary customers. However, Argos does operate a Trade-In service for technology, accepting items such as mobile phones, tablets, and games consoles for payment after inspection. Currys and John Lewis also offer technology trade-in and recycling services.
