The Independent has announced the results of its inaugural Travel Awards, based on the preferences of 17,000 readers. The awards, revealed on 8 September 2026, recognised top performers across various travel categories.
Among the winners, Spain was named the Best Destination in Europe, while the USA secured the title of Best Destination Outside of Europe. Dublin, Ireland, was voted the Best European City.
In the airline categories, Emirates was awarded Best Long-Haul Airline, and Jet2 and easyJet jointly won Best Short-Haul Airline. Tui was recognised as the Best Tour Operator and also the Best All-Inclusive Resort Brand. Hilton was named the Best Worldwide Hotel Brand.
For UK travel, Cornwall was chosen as the Best Place to Visit, and Hotel Cafe Royal in London received the award for Best Hotel in the UK. Edinburgh Castle was named Best UK Attraction.
