An IndiGo flight bound for Delhi was diverted back to London Heathrow Airport on Tuesday, 22 September, after experiencing a technical issue shortly after take-off. Flight 6E4, a Boeing 787, departed Heathrow at 8:39 pm for what was planned as an almost 10-hour flight to India.
Approximately 20 minutes into the journey, the aircraft made a U-turn over the Channel before reaching Belgium. The flight transmitted emergency squawk code 7700, indicating a general emergency, and landed safely back at Heathrow around 9:20 pm, less than an hour after its initial departure.
IndiGo confirmed that a technical issue was detected and that pilots followed standard operating procedures to return to Heathrow. The airline stated that the aircraft is currently undergoing maintenance checks and will resume operations after receiving necessary clearances. Passengers were offered hotel accommodation and placed on the next available flights to Delhi.
