Fifa president Gianni Infantino is set to meet with senior leaders of football's world governing body today, Wednesday, 5 August 2026, as criticism mounts over his recently abandoned plan to sell off Fifa's commercial and event operations.

Carlos Cordeiro, Infantino's senior adviser on global strategy and governance, resigned on Friday, calling the proposal "a bad deal for football" that would "mortgage football's future." Uefa has also expressed a loss of confidence in Infantino's leadership, with several member associations, including Wales, withdrawing support for his re-election.
