Fifa President Gianni Infantino has put forward a proposal for an external review of the governance of world football's governing body, indicating an openness to reform. In a letter to Fifa council members, Infantino tabled two reform suggestions for consideration at next month's council meeting.
The first proposal asks members if they wish to commission an independent external review of Fifa's current governance framework for major strategic initiatives. The second suggests establishing a direct, structured, and time-limited consultation with confederations, member associations, and relevant stakeholders.
This consultation would invite specific proposals on institutional involvement, the roles of the president, bureau, council, and congress, and ways to enhance transparency, participation, and accountability in strategic initiatives. Infantino has faced increasing pressure over his previously aborted Fifa Forward Enterprise (FFE) proposal.
