An inquest has been formally opened into the death of Jason Arday, a former professor at the University of Cambridge who resigned following allegations of plagiarism. Mr Arday, 41, died at his home in Battersea, south London, on August 14, nine days after his resignation.
Family members found Mr Arday unresponsive, and he was pronounced dead at the scene despite resuscitation efforts by the London ambulance service and Met police. Senior coroner Dr Julian Morris stated that the Met police confirmed the scene was not suspicious.
Dr Morris has launched an investigation into Mr Arday's death and adjourned the inquest to an unspecified later date. He also urged the media to be mindful in their reporting, considering Mr Arday's family and the public.
Mr Arday's family condemned what they described as a "campaign of misinformation" against him and asked the press to cease what they called a "campaign of harassment."
