A new recipe proposes a way to transform the last dregs of a ketchup bottle into a Marie Rose sauce. This approach involves adding several common kitchen ingredients directly into a near-empty ketchup bottle to create the dressing.
The recipe calls for 4-5 tablespoons of mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon of a spirit such as sweet vermouth, vodka, cognac, or brandy, and 1-3 tablespoons of chilli sauce like sriracha or Tabasco. A small squeeze of lemon juice, flaky sea salt, and black pepper are also added to the bottle, which should contain roughly 1-2 tablespoons of ketchup.
After adding the ingredients, the lid is screwed back on, and the bottle is shaken well. The resulting sauce can be used in a classic prawn cocktail with prawns, avocado, lettuce, and cucumber, or drizzled over burger buns or iceberg lettuce wedges.
