Inquests have opened into the deaths of Karen Joseph, 62, and Roman Kalas, 19, following a collision during a police pursuit in Stratford-upon-Avon.
Coventry Coroner's Court heard that Ms Joseph, from Stratford-upon-Avon, died in hospital on Friday 28 August from multiple traumatic injuries, four days after her Ford Puma collided with a black Audi A3 on Warwick Road. Mr Kalas, from Sutton Coldfield, who was driving the Audi and being pursued by police, died at the scene on 24 August from traumatic head and chest injuries.
Area coroner Sean McGovern opened and adjourned both inquests on Friday. The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the incident due to the police pursuit, with lead investigator Patrick Cragg stating the investigation is expected to last six months.
The IOPC previously said an officer began the pursuit after Mr Kalas failed to stop for police on Birmingham Road. The officer followed his car for about six minutes before the crash occurred as Mr Kalas travelled back towards Stratford on the A439 Warwick Road. Ms Joseph's daughter, a passenger, sustained minor injuries.
