The television series based on Anne Rice’s Vampire Chronicles books has undergone a significant transformation for its third season, now titled The Vampire Lestat. The show, previously known as Interview with the Vampire, has adopted a glam-rock musical style.
The new season depicts Lestat de Lioncourt, portrayed by Sam Reid, forming a glam band and recording an album to channel his rage following the publication of a biography. The narrative joins Lestat in 2025 as he tours the US, including a stopover in Detroit.
This shift in tone is a departure from the previous seasons, which were set in a historical New Orleans. The show's new direction, including Lestat becoming a rock singer, is a concept present in Rice's books, though the wholesale change in tone is noted as a risk.
