Significant engineering work, valued at £4 million, is scheduled to begin this weekend on the Inverclyde line. Network Rail has announced the start of a comprehensive programme designed to bolster the resilience and reliability of this crucial rail link, benefiting thousands of commuters and travellers in Scotland.
The extensive upgrade works will encompass a range of vital improvements. Key aspects of the project include essential repairs to tunnels and viaducts, which are critical components of the line's infrastructure. Additionally, efforts will be made to enhance the drainage systems along the route, a measure aimed at mitigating potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions. The installation of rock netting is also planned, further safeguarding the line against landslips and rockfalls.
To facilitate these crucial works, planned line closures will be implemented on specific weekends. Services between Paisley Gilmour Street and Wemyss Bay, as well as between Paisley Gilmour Street and Gourock, will be affected. During these periods, replacement bus services will be in operation to minimise inconvenience for passengers. The initial phase of work is set to take place on Saturday 15th and Sunday 16th June, with further closures planned for the weekends of 22nd-23rd June and 29th-30th June.
This investment forms part of a broader commitment to enhancing Scotland's railway network. The Inverclyde line is a vital artery, connecting communities and supporting economic activity across the region. By addressing potential vulnerabilities and modernising key infrastructure, Network Rail aims to ensure a more robust and dependable rail service for the future.
Passengers are advised to check their journey details in advance through the ScotRail app or website, as well as National Rail Enquiries, particularly on the affected weekends. Network Rail and ScotRail are working collaboratively to ensure the works are completed efficiently while maintaining passenger connectivity.
