Investigations are continuing today, 23 September 2026, after a mother and three children died in a house fire in Stone Square, Bootle, Sefton. Another casualty was taken to hospital after being found outside the semi-detached property when fire crews arrived during the early hours of Tuesday.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service stated that firefighters discovered four people in an upstairs bedroom who were showing no signs of life. Six fire engines were called to the scene at the height of the blaze.
A joint investigation involving Merseyside Police and Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service is expected to continue into this afternoon. Kevin Longshaw, area manager for Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service, described it as a devastating incident and said they would work closely with colleagues to determine the cause of the fire.
The Bishop of Liverpool, the Rt Rev Ruth Worsley, and the Bishop of Warrington, the Rt Rev Simon Robinson, expressed their deep sadness regarding the incident.
