A man was shot by police officers after a woman was stabbed at a property in Luton on Tuesday. Armed officers discharged four shots, and another fired a baton round, at an address in Cardigan Street at approximately 12:50 BST.

The man sustained life-changing but not life-threatening injuries to his arm and leg. Both he and the woman, whose injuries were also not life-threatening, were taken to hospital for treatment.

Bedfordshire Police stated they were responding to reports of a man threatening a woman with a knife at the address. Det Ch Supt Zara Brown confirmed officers "responded quickly" and that the man sustained serious injuries, receiving immediate first aid.

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is investigating the police response to the incident. The IOPC has secured police firearms for examination and has viewed CCTV and officers' body worn video.
