Five months after a missile strike on Shajareh Tayyebeh primary school in Minab, southern Iran, excavators continue to clear the site. Workers are searching for the remains of one young boy believed to be buried beneath the debris.
According to the Minab prosecutor’s office, a US-made Tomahawk missile struck the school on the first day of the war, killing 156 people, including 120 children. The US-Israeli attack on Iran began on 28 February.
Portraits of those killed cover walls, shopfronts, and roadside billboards across Minab, making the city a symbol of civilian suffering. The Pentagon has not provided answers regarding the bombing, which occurred during strikes on an adjacent military compound.
Among the rubble at the school, an eight-year-old girl named Mahya Salari was identified by her exercise book. Mahya, her younger brother Ali, and their mother were all killed in the strike.
