Iraola's Liverpool defence shines with three consecutive clean sheets

Liverpool have achieved three consecutive Premier League clean sheets for the first time since September 2024, marking a solid defensive start under manager Andoni Iraola.

  • Liverpool have kept three consecutive clean sheets in the Premier League, a feat not achieved since September 2024.
  • Manager Andoni Iraola is the first Liverpool manager since Joe Fagan in September 1983 to remain unbeaten in his first five league games.
  • Defender Jeremy Jacquet, 21, has started every Premier League game since his summer move and received his first France call-up.

Liverpool's defence is proving increasingly solid under manager Andoni Iraola, with the team securing three consecutive Premier League clean sheets. This marks the first time Liverpool have achieved such a defensive run since September 2024.

Iraola, 44, has also made a strong start to his tenure, becoming the first manager since Joe Fagan in September 1983 to remain unbeaten in his first five league games, with two wins and three draws. He noted that the defensive line, including Virgil van Dijk, Jeremy Jacquet, Ronald Araujo, and Milos Kerkez, is becoming more solid with more playing time together.

A key factor in this defensive strength has been the emergence of 21-year-old defender Jeremy Jacquet. Since his £60m summer move from Rennes, Jacquet has started every Premier League game and has now received his first international call-up for France.

Despite the defensive improvements, Iraola acknowledges the need for more from his attackers, including Florian Wirtz and Bradley Barcola, particularly with a demanding schedule ahead after the international break.
