Italian police have recovered three paintings by French masters Paul Cézanne, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Henri Matisse, authorities have announced. The artworks were stolen earlier this year from the Magnani Rocca Foundation, a private museum located approximately 12 miles (19km) from Parma.
The raid occurred overnight on 22-23 March. Police footage showed two masked burglars entering through a window, removing the three paintings from a wall, and leaving the building in an operation that lasted less than three minutes.
The recovered works include Cézanne’s Still Life with Cherries, valued by authorities at about $7 million (£5.2 million); Renoir’s Fish, valued at $3.5 million; and Matisse’s Odalisque on the Terrace, valued at $23,000.
A statement from the Italian Carabinieri’s art recovery squad indicated the paintings were found during searches ordered by prosecutors. The investigation into the theft is ongoing, with no further details provided regarding the recovery.
