Estonian aerial athlete Jaan Roose is scheduled to attempt a 160-metre long highline walk today, 1 October 2026, suspended 120 metres above central Seoul. The three-time slackline world champion will navigate a narrow polyester ribbon between the Koreana hotel and the Dong-A Media Center, close to the Gwanghwamun palace and square.
Roose, 34, has previously completed notable slacklining feats, including a 185-metre high walk in Qatar and a 3.6km traverse of the Strait of Messina in 2024. Earlier this month, he covered 14.7km over the Danube in Bratislava.
Large crowds are anticipated to watch Roose's two planned walks at 1pm and 4pm local time, provided weather conditions are suitable. The event will be postponed if average wind speeds reach 10m/s or gusts hit 15m/s. Today's forecast indicates sunny weather with light breezes.
Roose stated that a 2022 visit to South Korea, where he encountered jultagi, Korea’s traditional tightrope walking, inspired his Gwanghwamun walk.
