Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner films flop ahead of reported Bond screen tests

Two actors reportedly in contention for the James Bond role, Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner, are headlining financially unsuccessful films this weekend.

  • Jacob Elordi's film, The Dog Stars, is estimated to gross $10-14m at the US box office this weekend against a $70m budget.
  • Callum Turner's movie, One Night Only, opened to low numbers in the US and saw a 64% drop in its second weekend.
  • Official screen tests for the new 007 are reportedly scheduled for early September, with Elordi and Turner linked to the process.

Jacob Elordi and Callum Turner, both linked to upcoming screen tests for the role of James Bond, are currently starring in films that have performed poorly at the box office. This development comes as official screen tests for the new 007 are reportedly set to take place in early September.

Elordi's film, The Dog Stars, a post-apocalyptic thriller, is estimated to take in between $10-14 million at the US box office this weekend, significantly less than its approximate $70 million budget. Meanwhile, Turner's romantic comedy, One Night Only, which premiered in British cinemas today, previously grossed only $5 million in its US opening weekend and experienced a 64% decline in its second weekend.

The financial performance of these films could be a factor for the actors, as previous Bond contender Aaron Taylor-Johnson saw his chances reportedly diminish after his film Kraven the Hunter grossed $62 million worldwide against a budget of nearly $130 million in late 2024.
