Jae Stephens, the 29-year-old Dallas native, has unveiled her debut album, 'Audacity'. This release follows a prolific period during which Stephens dropped five EPs over seven years.
'Audacity' is described as a vibrant blend of maximalist R&B and hyperactive pop. The album's sound has been compared to recent records like PinkPantheress’s 'Fancy That' and Salute’s 'True Magic', noted for their speed and sweetly toned maximalism.
Tracks such as 'Crush' are noted for being both loud and minimal, while 'No One Knows My Name' and 'Attaboy!' evoke classic 2000s R&B played at an accelerated pace. Even on slower tracks like 'I Miss the City', Stephens reportedly maintains a distinctive style, layering bounce hi-hats over her lyrics.
