Car manufacturer Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has confirmed it is opening a voluntary redundancy programme for its salaried and management team members. The company stated the decision is part of efforts to "simplify" the organisation, improve efficiency, and build greater resilience.
JLR aims to save about £1.7bn over the next two years as it adapts to "evolving global market conditions." The firm told the BBC it has not confirmed the number of potential job losses, despite a report by The Times suggesting as many as 4,000 jobs may be affected due to tariffs and a drop in sales.
This announcement follows a cyber attack in September 2025 which halted production for over a month, leading to an estimated cost of £1.9bn and a 27% drop in overall production. In July, JLR had anticipated fewer than 300 people would leave under previously announced cost-saving plans.
