Jameis Winston has been named the starting quarterback for the New York Giants following a knee injury to Jaxson Dart. Winston's appointment comes as past allegations of off-field misconduct have been highlighted.
Winston was accused of assaulting Erica Kinsman in December 2012 while at Florida State, an allegation he denies. Police are alleged to have warned Kinsman against pursuing her claim, and the lead investigating officer was reportedly employed by a Florida State athletics fundraising arm. Florida State University later settled a lawsuit brought by Kinsman over the allegations, though Winston was never criminally charged.
In 2016, Winston was accused of groping an Uber driver. The NFL concluded that Winston touched the driver in a sexual manner, despite his denial, and he later apologised for the incident, stating it was uncharacteristic of him. He was not criminally charged in this case. Winston has privately settled civil cases with both Kinsman and the Uber driver.
