Jane Asher, Paul McCartney's ex-fiancée, has revealed she has no plans to watch Sam Mendes' forthcoming quartet of Beatles biopics. Asher, now 80, will be portrayed by Lucy Boynton in the films.
Asher and McCartney dated from 1963 to 1968, announcing their engagement in 1967 before separating the following year. Their relationship will be part of The Beatles – A Four-Film Cinematic Event, which tells the band's story from the perspective of each member.
Filmmakers contacted Asher about the project, but she maintained her long-standing decision not to discuss her relationship with McCartney publicly. She commented on Lucy Boynton's casting, saying, "Well, of course, Lucy is beautiful. But I won’t watch the films, otherwise everyone will ask me what I thought."
Asher explained she made a conscious decision decades ago to stop answering questions about her time with McCartney, stating, "It was so long ago."
