Jarvis Cocker has discussed Pulp's new film, 'What Do You Do For An Encore?', the band's history, and their future with NME. The 90-minute film, directed by Garth Jennings, documents Pulp's two sold-out shows at The O2 in London last summer.
The movie features narration from the band, unseen archive material, and rare behind-the-scenes footage. It also traces the group's journey to their tour for 'More', their first album in 24 years.
Cocker explained that the tour following 'More' had a renewed energy. He noted the relief that the new songs integrated well with the older material, despite the long gap between records.
He also spoke about the criteria for being a member of Pulp, emphasising personality over musical skill. Cocker highlighted the importance of late bassist Steve Mackey, stating that the band might not have continued without his drive.
