A consortium that includes Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has finalised an agreement to purchase a minority stake in Liverpool Football Club. The deal, worth more than £1.5 billion, sees 1892 Holdings acquire between 30% and one-third of the Premier League club from current majority owners Fenway Sports Group (FSG).
1892 Holdings is led by former QPR director Amit Bhatia and also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Despite the investment, FSG will maintain operational control of the club, with no changes to the leadership or day-to-day operations.
There will be no alteration to Liverpool's transfer budget or policy, meaning no new funds for manager Andoni Iraola. The club's valuation now stands at just over £5.1 billion following this investment.
