Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is set to buy shares in Liverpool FC as part of a consortium, according to reports. Fenway Sports Group (FSG), the American firm that has owned the Premier League club since 2010, is planning a significant minority sale.

The consortium, which also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin, is led by Amit Bhatia, the son-in-law of steel billionaire Lakshmi Mittal and a former Queens Park Rangers shareholder. A deal could be announced this week, Sky News' Mark Kleinman reportedly stated.

FSG acquired Liverpool for £300m over 15 years ago. The club's valuation could now exceed £4.5bn, reflecting the increased valuations in England's top flight.

FSG confirmed interest from Bhatia, telling the Financial Times: "An investment consortium led, managed, and represented by Amit Bhatia has expressed interest in making a strategic minority investment in Liverpool Football Club."
