Robert Jenrick has pledged to raise the tax-free personal allowance from £12,570 to £15,000 in his first budget as Chancellor if Reform UK is elected into government. In a speech on Saturday, Jenrick is expected to state that this £21bn tax cut would demonstrate the party's commitment to "choose the worker".
The proposal would be funded by planned £80bn cuts to government spending, with £52bn of this coming through welfare reform. Party officials have indicated that this tax cut could save the majority of taxpayers approximately £500 a year and benefit 40m people overall.
Jenrick also plans for Reform to work "step-by-step" towards raising the personal allowance to £20,000 when it can be fully paid for, building on a previous party manifesto pledge. He is expected to tell an audience of party members that there has "never, in our lifetimes, been a worse time to be a worker in Britain."
