Jersey average earnings rise 1.2% after inflation, below long-term average

Average earnings in Jersey increased by 1.2% after inflation for the year to June 2026, according to Statistics Jersey. This rise is lower than both the preceding five-year annual average and the long-term annual average.

  • Average earnings in Jersey rose by 4.1% before inflation for the year to June 2026.
  • After adjusting for the island's 2.8% inflation rate, real-terms earnings increased by 1.2%.
  • This 1.2% increase is "slightly lower" than the 1991-2025 long-term annual average of 4.2%.

Average earnings in Jersey saw a 1.2% increase after accounting for inflation in the year leading up to June 2026, Statistics Jersey has reported. Before inflation, earnings per full-time equivalent employee were 4.1% higher than in June 2025.

The island's inflation rate currently stands at 2.8%. The real-terms pay rise of 1.2% is described as "slightly lower" than the long-term annual average of 4.2% recorded between 1991 and 2025. It also falls below the 5.6% annual average of the preceding five years.

Matthew Gill, a statistician for Statistics Jersey, noted that real-term earnings have not significantly changed when looking back to 2001. He suggested that people are not necessarily earning less, but the impact of inflation, particularly on items like petrol, is more noticeable.

Heidi Gibaut, executive director at Law At Work, indicated that some of her firm's clients have taken on secondary roles to boost their income, though she described this as not a sustainable way of living.
