A proposition to reduce fuel duty in Jersey by 10p a litre for three months has been withdrawn. Deputy Lucy Stephenson had put forward the proposal in June, aiming to cut the tax from 1 October to 31 December.
Deputy Stephenson stated that she withdrew the proposition after "constructive discussions" with Treasury Minister Alan Maclean. She indicated that these talks had led to a "pragmatic way forward" to assist islanders with financial issues.
When the proposition was lodged, Stephenson highlighted that the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, affecting traffic through the Strait of Hormuz, had intensified "spiralling costs" for Jersey residents. She expressed satisfaction that the issue of the cost of living was being taken seriously following her discussions.
