Pensioners in Jersey are set to receive an increase of £734 a year to their old age pension, bringing the overall sum to £16,294 annually. The Government of Jersey announced that this 4.7% increase amounts to an additional £14 per week for those on a full pension.
The pension is updated each October, with the increase being at least the recorded rise in the pensioner retail price index for June.
Senator Elaine Millar, Minister for Social Security, stated that further support, including cold weather payments and free TV licences, will be available for low-income pensioners. Deputy Millar encouraged anyone who believes they may be eligible for extra help to check available support, such as Pension Plus, the Health Access Scheme, and the Cold Weather Bonus.
Last month, the social security minister indicated that introducing mandatory workplace pensions alongside the government pension was a priority.
