Cycle 2 of the Security Open Call is now open, with the UK Defence Innovation (UKDI) seeking disruptive technologies to address security challenges. This cycle introduces new focus areas from the Department for Transport (DfT), including threat detection, screening technologies, passenger security, and situational awareness.

The competition aims to find innovative approaches that can improve security while supporting efficient transport operations. Specific areas of interest include aviation hold baggage screening, detection of explosive threats in complex freight, and low divestment walk-through people and bag screening.

Successful proposals can receive funding up to £350,000, with projects running for a maximum of 12 months. An optional testing and trialling phase can extend activity to 18 months. The application process involves a two-stage submission, with Stage 1 proposals closing at midday on 29 October (GMT).
