Jesse Eisenberg has declined to return as Mark Zuckerberg in the upcoming sequel, The Social Reckoning. Oscar-winning screenwriter Aaron Sorkin, who is directing the film, reportedly spent three days trying to convince Eisenberg to reprise the role from the 2010 hit The Social Network.
Sorkin told Entertainment Weekly that money was not a motivator for Eisenberg, stating, "If anything, money is a disincentive for him. It's admirable. He's very concerned about raising his kids with too much money."
Eisenberg, who was nominated for an Oscar for his original portrayal, ultimately turned down the part. He told Variety in June that he no longer wants "to be associated with that character," despite finding conversations with Sorkin an "honor."
Jeremy Strong will now take on the role of Mark Zuckerberg in The Social Reckoning, which is set to be released on October 9. The movie also features Mikey Madison and Jeremy Allen White.
