Chelsea striker Joao Pedro is reportedly set to sign a new contract that would keep him at the club until 2032, with an option for two additional years. The 24-year-old Brazil international joined Chelsea last summer from Brighton.
The new deal is understood to be a reward for his performance, which saw him become the first Chelsea striker since Diego Costa to score 20 goals in a season without penalties. He also netted three times during Chelsea's Club World Cup-winning campaign.
Chelsea's strategy aims to protect their investment and incentivise strong performances through improved terms. The club previously extended contracts for Cole Palmer and Nicolas Jackson following their impressive form.
Pedro is expected to start Chelsea's Premier League opener at Fulham on Monday. New signings Danny Welbeck and Emmanuel Emegha are anticipated to provide cover this season. Liam Delap, who previously held the number nine shirt now given to Pedro, is available for transfer.
The club also plans to offer new contracts to other key players, including Levi Colwill and Estevao Willian, after the transfer window closes.
