Joe Marchant aims for England comeback after Sale Sharks move

Joe Marchant has joined Sale Sharks after three years with Stade Francais, with the goal of returning to the England rugby squad.

  • Joe Marchant made his last England appearance at the 2023 Rugby World Cup.
  • England head coach Steve Borthwick has asked Marchant to prove himself in the Premiership.
  • Marchant's new club, Sale Sharks, will play Bristol at home on Saturday, 26 September.

Joe Marchant has returned to English rugby with Sale Sharks after a three-year period playing for Paris-based Stade Francais. The 30-year-old centre is focused on convincing England head coach Steve Borthwick to recall him to the Test squad.

Marchant, who earned 26 England caps, last played for his country in the third-place play-off at the 2023 Rugby World Cup. Borthwick has reportedly told Marchant, along with fellow new Sale player Courtney Lawes, to perform well in the Premiership to be considered for international selection.

Marchant noted that his time in France, where he played in the Top 14 league, has made him a more assertive and communicative player. Sale Sharks are set to begin their season at home against Bristol on Saturday, 26 September.
