Johnny Marr, the former Smiths guitarist, is scheduled to release his fifth solo album, 'The Age Of Everything', this Friday, October 2. Marr told NME that the project was inspired by "the idea of perception, and how I perceive not just the world but my own feelings and those of the people around me, to spy on them and then write songs about it".
The album, comprising 10 pop-leaning tracks, was written while Marr was people-watching in London and subsequently recorded in Manchester. Marr indicated that he leaned into his own idiosyncrasies more than before for this record.
Marr also shared that he took inspiration from working with Damon Albarn on Gorillaz's 2026 record, 'The Mountain', learning to be open-minded and letting things happen naturally. He also cited listening to Boards Of Canada and Fontaines D.C. during the album's creation.
