Two-time Tour de France winner Jonas Vingegaard will miss the rest of the season to continue his recovery from a broken collarbone. The 29-year-old Visma-Lease a Bike rider sustained the injury during stage 15 of this year's Tour de France when his front wheel slid out on a tight bend, causing him to land on his shoulder.
The injury required surgery and ruled Vingegaard out of contention for a third Tour victory. He will also be absent from September's UCI Road World Championships in Montreal, Canada.
Vingegaard stated that the collarbone injury delayed the start of his training, making it impossible to return to top level in the coming period. He added that the focus is now on preparing optimally for the goals of the 2027 season, which he will discuss with his team.
Marc Reef, Visma-Lease a Bike's head of racing, indicated that Vingegaard's busy racing schedule in 2026 also contributed to the decision to end his season early. He confirmed that the team will work with Vingegaard on his training build-up and goals for the new year.
